THE LIBEL CASE

The case in which Thomas W. Arthur, formerly employed in the Wellington Zoological Gardens, sued Albert E. L. Bertling, ‘keeper of the Zoo, for £5Ol damages, was concluded to-day, after three days’ trial. Plaintiff had resigned from tlie service of the Wellington Cit.v Council to take a -position in the Queensland Botanical Gardens, and defendant had written to J. Beard, secretary of the Brisbane Zoological Gardens, a letter stating p.aintiff had been discharged for incompetence, negligence, and mischief-making. The jury awarded plaintiff £IOO damages, with costs.
