ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
DEATH OF MR. R. TURNBULL.
The District Coroner was advised on Saturday afternoon that Robert Turnbull, aged 65 years, died suddenly at Ivoparoa, Waipiro, during Friday night. No doctor was in attendance. Mr. Barton, S.M., has ordered that ail inquest be held. Mr. Tlirnbull was the father of Mr. G. Tlirnbull. of the Tokomaru Hotel, ana it is said was found dead in bod in his hut. The body is to be brought to Gisborne for interment. NATIVE GIRL DROWNED. JPer Press Association.] WAIItOA, Dec. 4. The police received information this morning that a girl named Silk, aged four .-.years, a halfcaste, had been drowned in the Waiau river last Tuesday. As the Natives kept the matter quiet so long a doctor is being sent out with the police to hold an inquest. DEATH THROUGH EATING MATCH HEADS. HAMILTON. Dec. 14. Kate. Len.ihan, aged 16 years, died in the district hospital early this morning, it is supposed through eating match heads. OLD AGE PENSIONER KILLED. WELLINGTON. Dec. 4. Edwin Cox, married, an old ago pensioner was knocked over by a train at Petone this morning. He was taken to the Hospital, , but died soon after arrival there. A NARROW ESCAPE. . ‘ ASHBURTON, Dec. 4. A carrier named Robert Jennings, when loading flour at Robertson and Co’s mill vesterday, accidentally ran his bead against a revolving pulley, which rendered him partially unconscious, and inflicted ugly, facial wounds. Those conversant with machinery state that it was a marvel that Jennings was not killed outright.
