GISBORNE CLUB
A match in the second round of the Gisborne Bowling Club’s handicap singles was played yesterday afternoon •■ptween Wilson and Zachariah. The former conceded the latter two points, the handicap allowances being 7 and J respectively. The game was well and evenly contested, and on the 11th heathe scores were equal, 17 all, including handicap allowances. Zachariah scored on the next three heads, putting up two. three, and a single. Wilson responded by scoring on the following three with a. couple of twos and a single. On,: thevJlßth bead Zachariah got in all four’- bowls, and followed up this success by scoring a single on the 19th, thus (getting " a lead of seven points. Wilson lay «ne on the 20tli head, and Zachariah by putting up two on the 21st won the game by eight points. The final scores were: Zachariah (S) 31, Wilson (7) 23. TUIIANGANUI CLUB. At the Turanganui Club’s green yesterday afternoon three matches were played, the results of which were: —Handicap Pairs. — V. Hooper and J. P. Williams (1) 26 v. W. Hay and W. McWhirter (scr) 22. —This was the final game in the first round. T. McConnell acted as substitute for Hooper. The game was a very even one. On the 4th head the players were 5 all, and on the 11th head McWhirter and Hay had a lead of one point, 11—10. The next head saw this pair secure a seven, but'their opponents with steady play on the ensuing five heads pulled up the leeway and made matters even on the 1/th head, 20 all. A ding-dong tussle then ensued and on the 19th head the scores ’were 22 all. The 20th head saw McWhirter with the shot, but Williams with a firm bowl .carried .the ack and lay two. On the final head kay lay two .When the skips changed ends. Williams with his .second touched the jack with no alteration. Mehowl Williams rested the iack and obtained the shot lhe remaining ljowls did not alter fc he ad nnd the final head showed—Williams 25 McWhirter 22. —Challenge Walking Stick. — J. D. Jeune (challenger) 9 beat W. Ratcliffe (holder) 4.—Ratcliffe scored first blood with a single, Jeune responding with a like number. Then Ratcliffe got in a three, and again Jeune replied in similar terms; 4 all on the 4th head. Then Jeune repeated his score of the previous head with another three, and on the ,6th head <put up two, thus winning by five points.
