SOCIAL AT RAKAUROA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) A most enjoyable evening was spent on Friday. flist inst., in the Rakauroa School, the gathering being in the form of a social. The weather was very wet, rain falling incessantly, which, probably greatly marred the function, although it was one of the most successful gatherings ever held in Rakauroa. Great credit is due to Mr. and Mrs. A. T. Smith, and also to Mr. and Mrs. Clias. Smith, who had under their control the sole management of • the function. The floor was in splendid order, consequently dancing was very briskly kept up. and was continued until the early hours of the morn. There was a very good attendance of ladies, and also of gentlemen. Songs were rendered by Mrs. W. R. Clarke and Mr. Tlios. Grace. The music was chiefly supplied by Mr. Chas. Smith, whilst Mr. S. V. Reaufoy assisted him all of winch was played on the piano.* Mr. S. V. Beaufoy, on behalf of those present, proposed a vote of thanks to Mr and Mrs. A. T. Smith, and Mr. and Mrs Chas. Smith for the most enjoyable evening that had been spent, and than,) ked them for the trouble they had taken to make all those present have a “gay old time.” The vote was heartily accorded, -with loud applause. Mr. Tlios. Grace' as M.C., carried out his duties very well, and greatly assisted in making the evening a most T enjoyable function.
