LORD KITCHENER’S VISIT.

A general order issued to-day by the Council of Defence sets' out Lord Kitchener’s programme as follows: —Thurs. day, 17th February, arrive at Bluff and proceed to Dunedin by train; Friday, 18th February, inspection of harbor defences and garrison artillery, inspection of senior cadets, and defence force of the district brought into camp at Dunedin; Saturday, 19th February, inspection of field exercises of the forces in camp;.Sunday, 20th February, forcec returning to homes when the inspection is completed ; Monday, 21st February, en route to Christchurch' by train; Tuesday. 22nd February, inspection of harbor defences and garrison artillery, inspection of senior and junior cadets, and defence forces of the district brought into camp near Christchurch; Wednesday, 23rd February, inspection of field exercises of the forces in camp, forces return to their homes when inspection is completed, leave for Wellington; Thursday, 24th February, arrive, reserved for his conference with His Excellency the Governor and Cabinet; Friday, 25th February, inspection of harbor defences and garrison artillery, inspection of senior and junior cadets, defence forces of the district brought into camp near Wellington; Saturday. 26th February, inspection of field exercises of the forces in camp, forces return to. their homes when inspection is completed; Sunday, 27thFebruary, Monday, 28th February, en route by train to Auckland; Tuesday, Ist March, inspection of harbor defences and garrison artillery, senior and junior cadets, also ammunition factory defence forces of the district brought into camp near Auckland. Wednesday, Marhc 2nd, inspection of field exercises of the forces in camp; forces returning to their homes when inspection comipleted. Thursday, 3rd March. Lord Kitchener leaves Auckland. Camps under the direction of officers commanding districts will be established at Abbotsford, near Dunedin; Hagley Park, near Christchurch; Johnsonville. near Wellington; and near Auckland (locality not fixed). Transport by rail. Pay and allowances, rations and forage to be on the same scale as authorised for last Easter camp. Pay and allowances will be paid only for attendance for each 24 hours reckondcd as a day, counting from entraining to detraining on return. Authority must first be obtained before arrangements are entered into for costly conveyance by land and sea, to convey far outlying companies to the railway. The horsing of guns and all first lines of transport is hereby authorised. Officers commanding* districts to requisition for authority for second line of transport they consider necessary. Attendance at these camps may count as days m camp, or each day may count as two capitation daylight parades for the current year. Field service uniform and marching order kit only to be used. These camps will take the place of the usual moneuvres during the coming Easter week of March next. Dmence cadets (senior cadets) to parade for inspection and review at the same price and date as the public (junior) school cadets. Companies remaining overnight will receive a ration allowance of 2s per officer and cadet per 24 hours. A ration allowance of 6d (sixpence) per meal will be made for each officer and cadets of local companies only requiring one or two meals at camp to save unnecessary exipense. Officers commanding districts to arrange that troops are returned to their homes at the earliest possible time after the conclusion of inspection. A Government steamer will be available to convey troops from Nelson district only will be provided while en route to and from Wellington by, steamer.
