THE IMPORTED MENAGERIE.

TROUBLE OVER BALD-HEADED EAGLES.

[Pirn Puess Assort vmon.l WELLINGTON, Jan. 28. Trouble (has arisen over the importation to New Zealand of the two bald-headed eagles comprised in Mr. Boyd’s menagerie, which was described yesterday, 'ihe Hon. D. Buddo, ns Minister of Internal Affairs, is understood to have refused permission for them to Land, unless the owner puts up £SO as a guarantee of their safe custody and this Mr Boyd is disinclined to do. He offered to enter into a bond for that amount, and also to have the birds’ ■wings broken, so as to ensure that the birds would never fly again, but it is said that the Minister has refused to accept this offer, and that the birds will have to go back to Australia or to Germany. Some while ago two eagles were brought to New Zealand for the Newtown Zoo, and they lived and died there, without- any exception* being taken by the Government to their residence in the country. WANGANUI, Ja.iu 28.

A number of wild animals imported from Germany and Australia by Mr. J. J. Boyd for the Aramoho zoo arrived to-day. and were placed safely in cages. The consignment includes two lions, a tiger, two great Indian bears and two springbok, in addition to monkeys, opossums, wallabies, and birds of all sorts, including vultures, cranes. South American parrots, laughing jackasses, galaks, cockatoos, etc. The bald-headed eagles, to whose importation objection was' raised by the Government, have been allowed to land on condition that their wings are broken.
