ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
A DROWNING FATALITY
[Per Press Association.] DUNEDIN, Feb. 9. Charles Smith, blacksmith on the Alpine dredge, near Cromwell, was drowned in the river last night by falling from a dredge.
ATTEMPTED SUICIDE. A man named Edward Charles McLean, aged 30 years, residing with his parents at Green Island, was. brought to the hospital to-night suffering from wounds believed to have been selfinflicted. He is of a silent and reserved disposition, and for the past two days has been in bed owing to pains in his head. To-night he was found on tlie floor bleeding profusely from an opening of the* veins of th ( . left arm and leg. He is progressing favorably.
