MOTOR LAUNCH RACE
The first motor launch race for the cup presented by Mr G. J. Black took place yesterday afternoon over the seven mile course, starting from the breakwater. A strong southerly wind made the sea choppy, but this added to the interest and showed that the' boats were seaworthy. Ten boats started in the following order: W. Miller’s Kaiti 17min 12sec, J. Solvander’s lola 15min 4sec, P. Barker’s .Muriel 14min Slsec, Young’s Merry Widow 13min 22sec, C. Thomas’ Elsie 12min 52sec, F. Pettie’s Waiata llmin Sisco, Nelson Bros.’ Te Aute omin 31sec, J. Peacocke’s Tliistle 3min 25sec, G. J. Black’s Sprite lmin 9sec, J. Adair’s Aster scratch. The Kaiti drew out soon after the start. Eight boats finished, and the time was good. The result was: J. Adair’s Aster 1, J. Solvander’s lola 2. G. J. Black’s Sprite 3, and F. Pettie’s Waiata 4. The finish was exciting, only about lpsecs. being the difference in time between the first and second boats. Mr Adair thus takes the cup, but will have to defend it in a fortnight.
