United, Press Association —Copyright (Received March 22, 12.40 a.m.) PORT DARWIN, March 21.

A Chinese burglar entered tbe room of Diver Hughes, at the Club Hotel. Hughes attempted to capture the intruder, but the latter using a knife inflicted a slight wound on him and escaped. A constable saw him running, and fired throe shots. The dead body of the. Chinaman was found at daylight in the bush. Two of the shots had taken effect.

[Diver Hughes is presumably the brave mail who a few years ago obtained celebrity by bis rescue of an Italian from a. flooded mine in Western Australia.]
