The Prime Minister left Wellington , for. Lyttelton by Monday night’s steam_ er. He stayed last night in Christchurch, and goes to Port Chalmers today to meet his Excellency the Governor. A private telegram to a Gisborne resident yesterday announced the fact that F. I). Porter, who was injured by a fall off Te Arai at the Auckland Racing Club’s meeting on Saturday,, was making wonderful progress towards recovery; The members of th'e staff of the “Times” assembled yesterday afternoon for the mirpose of saying farewell to Mr. F. W. Farrell, who has severed his connection with the paper. Mr. I. Clarkson, on behalf of those present, handed a pair of goldi sleeve links to Mr. Farrell, and several speeches were made testifying to the esteem in which the recipient was held by his fellow workers. Mr. Farrell leaves for the South by the steamer this evening to take up a position on the staff of the “Otago Daily Times.” ..... , His Excellency the Governor visited Waitaki High School yesterday. He lunched 1 with the rector, Mr. F.'Milner, M.A. In the afternoon lie visited Ngapara as the guest of the County Council, and was met by a large number of residents and presented with an ad- ' dress. His Excellency continued Ins visit South later.
