GISBORNE CLUB. An interesting afternoon’s play took • place at the Gisborne Club’s courts yes"tordav, when the lady members took part In an American Doubles Lournament instead of the usual monthly progressive tennis. The tournament was”plaved under sealed handicaps, and when these were opened at the conclusion of the game it was found that .some very close finishes had taken place. The handicapping .was done bj Airs.. Carmichael, and so well did this lady do her work that only two points separated the three leading pairs in the
A grade. The leading scores in the A grade were as follows: — Miss "McCredie and Miss Reynolds, 142'—10—152. , , Mrs. Burke and Miss Sunderland, 139—12—151. Mrs, Barlow and Miss Bright, 150— scr—lso. . , .. The games in the A grade were or 50 up. and the last-named pair won their three matches. In the B grade, the prizes; were won by Miss Murray and Miss K. Sherratt. Afternoon tea was provided by the lady members, Mrs. Murray kindly presiding.
