HONE KEKE’S MONUMENT.

UNVEILED AT KAIKOHE. 1 PICTURESQUE AND IMPRESSIVE CEREMONY. (PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.! AUCKLAND, April 11. The monument to the late Hone Heke was unveiled at Kaikohe to-day. The arrival of the Hons. J. Carroll and A. T. Ngata was- announced by a fusilade of musketry.. The ceremony known as Ta-mgakawa was carried out by representative chieftains of the northern tribes! this being followed by the combined Maori choirs rendering “Safe in the Arms* of Jesus.” The Rev. Air. os then engaged in prayer, and, following him, Mr. Carroll., spoke eloquently on the virtues of Hone Heke, and u-nveiled •the monument, which, had been elaborately dressed with Maori garments and adorned with articles of veitu. Several Alaori clergymen and chiefs followed with oratorical tributesto the memory of Hone Heke.
