During the last act of a performance fn the Empire Palace Theatre at Edinborough, which the King had, intended to visit while in, Scotland, the stage properties caught fire. The soreen was instantly dropped and the house was quickly emptied with admirable ord'er prevailing.
Many of the performers were in their rooms, and some of them fainted. The majority of them escaped safely, but Lafayette and several members of his company were overwhelmed. Seven bodies, including that of Lafayette’s were recovered amongst the ruins of the stage.
Tlie fire was confined to tlie back of the theatre, which collapsed.
