CHRISTCHURCH, July S. The Antarctic exploring ship Terra Nova leaves Lyttelton on Monday on a surveying course round New Zealand’s coasts, and is expected to be away three months. CORRESPONDENCE SCHOOLS. Mr. C. H. A. T. Opie, Chairman of the North Canterbury Education Board, states that the Board is unfavorable towards correspondence schools as proposed by the Otago Board of Education. The conditions in North Canterbury were dissimilar to those in Otago INSTRUCTION OF TEACHERS. At the Normal School in this city, modern additions arc beU made, including provisions for instructing teacliers in kindergarten work. The building for this purpose is under construction. AGRICULTURAL INSTRUCTION. TIMARU, July 9. The A. and P. Association’s committee pay £25 towards last year’s salary of the Education Board’s agricultural instructor, and repeat it for the current year on the conditions that Mr. Brown gives three lectures to farmers Mr. John Withell said they had. a remarkably good mail in Mr. Brown. One lecture he had given on manure alone was worth £25. The committee appointed two delegates to attend the Dunedin conference, which will consider the question of the establishment 0 f a Clydesdale stud book for New Zealand.
