GISBORNE FIRE BOARD.
SPECIAL MEETING
The Gisborne Fire Board met yesterday in the Borough Council Chambers. The following were present : Messrs J. Townley (chairman), J. Brown, G. Thome George, G. Smith, G. L. Evans, and S. S. Dean.
The proposal to purchase a motor fire engine was freely discussed, and Inspector Hugo wrote enclosing a list of specifications it- would be necessary to lay down should the Board decide to go in for an engine- He also enclosed the names of a number of manufacturing firms who might be invited to tender for the engine. It was agreed that copies of the specifications be sent- to- each of the firms named, together with letters asking them to tender prices at which they could deliver at the Gisborne wharf an engine conforming ■with the set out. The Chairman reported having interviewed Inspector Hiigo with reference to the Board’s liabilitv to contribute towards the salary being paid to the nightwatchman. Inspector Hugo had informed him that he knew of no other Board that contributed money for. such a purpose, and opined that they bore no responsibility in the matter. Mr Dean moved that the Borough Council be written to, pointing out that the Board did not acknowledge any liability in the matter. The motion was carried. ... With' regard to the acquisition of land adjoining the present station for the purpose of extending the present station, it was decided to approach the Borough Council requesting that the land required be handed over.
