RICC'ARTON TRAINING NOTES

Training commenced this morning at Ricearton in very calm) weather. The tracks had improved very mucQi since yesterday, and the sand on which most of the work was done, was exceptionally fast. Outlander was first to do fast work, and he left a mile on the tan behind in lmin oSsccs. Counterfeit and Cronstadt separately galloped twice round at a good half pace. Flake and Amalgam got to the end of a mile in lmin 53secs. and Ermengarde sprinted two furlongs down the straight. Gipsy Belle and Dearest covered five furlongs in lmin 4 4-5 secs, and Espartero and Hawick went twice round over the hurdles at a good pace, both jumping exceptionally well. Boanerges moving nicely sprinted down the straight and Bandore accomplished a similar task. Clan and Mona went four furlongs on the sand track in 49secs, Red White and Blue taking 54)secs to cover the same distance on the plough. Jan ran 4 furlongs on the sand track in 51 l-ssecs, and Stepmeter, moving well, covered the same ground in 49secs. St. Felix and St. Petersburg ran the last seven furlongs of a mile journey in lmin 34secs., and Prim did half pace work. Dan Lena and Idealism left four furlongs on the sand behind in oOsecs, and Vibration and Rangatua together covered five furlongs, the last of a mile, in oOsecs. Bliss next put up a sensational gallop by reeling off eight furlongs on the sand in lmin 39secs, the last seven taking lmin 26secs to negotiate. It was a remarkable gallop, and she finished up iher task in a very workmanlike fashion. Master Paul spurted the last half-mile of five furlongs in 52secs, and Equitas went five furlongs in lmin 5 2-osecs. Henfield was given a round over the hurdles, which he negotiated satisfactorily, and. Big Blast left four furlongs behind in 50 l-sseos. Among others out were Morecambe, Miscount, Undecided, Electrakoff, St. Toney, Los Angelos, The Cornet, Genius, Beldame, Rea-, Athenic, Floater, Faumis, All Guns, Lourdes, Heather Brae, Somersault, Winning Way, Autumous, Tannhauser, Stephanus, Nyland, Murmura, Countermine, Madam Madcap, Goldfinder, Dazzling, Crosbie, Pilgrim’s Way, Sea King, and Colleen Mary. After breakfast no fast work was done, but a large number of horses were restricted to half and three-quar-ter pace.
