TURAN GANUICLUB

There was a- large attendance of bowlers on the green of the Turangauui Club yesterday afternoon, when several match games were played, as well as promiscuous ones. Afternoon tea was dispensed by Mrs. P. Barry, and was much appreciated. The results of the match games were: — —Cope Feathers.—

D. B. McSkimming, W. Hay, C. JBennett, M. G. Nasmith, jun. (skip) (6 points) 26 heat W. F. Crawford, D. Barry, J. Colley, and I. S. Simson (skip) (3 points) 16.—This was the final in the competition. On the 4th head the teams were 4 all, on the Bth head 8 all, and 10 all on the 11th head, when .an adjournment was made. for afternoon tea. On resuming, Nasmith’s rink put up some good scoring, gaining consecutively 3,3, 4,4, the 15th head showing in their favor with 24 to 10. This lead Simson’s rink slightly reduced, but had to bow to defeat by a margin of 10 points. The victorious rink now become the possessors of the silver feathers presented by Mr. Cope. —Licensed Victuallers’ Fours. —

J. Stevenson, H. J. Finn, B. Hird, and A. Sawyer (skip) (6 points) 21 beat T. Holdsworth, D. Hepburn, M. A. Neill, S. Wootton (skip) (3 points) 15. —This was the first game in the competition, and in the absence of Wootton, Thelwall acted as skip. On the 7th head the teams were 9 all, and on the 12th head 12 all. On the 14th head honors were easy with 13 all, but from this point Sawyer’s rink got the upper hand, and won by six points. —Hird Pairs.—

J. Uridg© and J. D. Jeune (skip) (7pts) 25 beat W. Howard and M. A. Neill (skip), (9pts) 24.—This was the semi-final,.' On the 6th head Ufidge and Jeune led by 17 to 9... and on the . 11th head by 20 to 13. Howard and . Neill then commenced to overhaul their opponents, and drew level on _ the lothbead with 20 all. Jeune and his partner then got a couple, followed 1 by a single, to which their opponents responded with a single and a two, leaving honors even. The 20th head went to Neill with a single, but on the last head Jeune, ■with his last bowl, dislodged his opponent’s shot and secured two and victory. , , , , The final now remains to be played between J- Uridge and J. D. Jeune (skip) (7pts) ana' A. J. Nicol and B. Hird (skip) (opts). —Bennett Cup.— J. J. Martin 18 beat 0. Taylor 17. Martin assumed the lead in the early stages, and was 16 to 9 on the 17th head. Taylor made a good recovery, and was beaten by one point. A. Sawyer 20 heat C. J. Bennett 18. —Sawyer had the upper hand from the commencement of the game, being 19 to 9 on the .16th head. Bennett tried hard to retrieve the position, but suffered defeat by two points. J. J. Martin 16 beat S. Earle 14. On the 6th head Martin was 10 to nil, but Earle improved his play, and was beaten only by a margin of two points. GISBORNE CLUB. There was a good muster of players at the Gisborne green yesterday, and a number of interesting games- were -layed. —Handicap Pair's— Three games were got off in the Handicap Pairs. Williams and R. Robertson (skip) 32 heat J. H. Martin and A. Zachariali ('skip) 22. This' game was remarkable for the wonderful recovery made by the winners. At one stage of the gam9 Zachariahi was leading by 19 to 1. Robertson then got going, and for the remainder of the game Zachariali did not have a look in. Hamilton and W. Smith (skip) 30 l>eat Townson and Hennessy (skip) 18. The winners had a bit in hand throughout, a-nd eventually won by a- comfortable margin. Burton (sub. for R. T- Seymour) and
