HONORABLE MEN IN PRIVATE LIFE, BUT-
MR. MYERS ON THE OPPOSITION. IN PRAISE OF SIR JOSEPH WARD. Mr Myers (Auckland East) said tu** he knew ail the members of the Opposition Party, and in private life they were all honorable men, but the fact remained that for political reasons they had unoofisoiously associated l themselves with a policy that by m> means reflected credit upon them. Referring to the statement made by Mr Massey in the evening he said that nothing the Leader of the Opposition had done tended to elevate public life so much as that statement. Referring to Sir Joseph Ward 1 lie said that he stood out as the most notable man in New Zealand. No man in the community had rendered .so many services to the _ public as Sir Jos. Ward. He paid a high compliment to his work in the various conferences he had attended in the Old Country, and although Sir Joseph bad stated that he was going to resign no matter what the result of this Division was going to be, yet he °*-' a that- the time was not fa- when the people would be used and grateful indeed ,i- „;<m toot an active part in Uiv community. He spoke at some length of the finance and prosperity and increase of population in the Dominion. THE ADJOURNMENT. At 11.40 p.m. Mr Glover moved the adjournment of the .Debate, and this was agreed to. The Opposition had preserved!' a policy of masterly silence, and this left the Government, to put forward man after man in an attempt to keep the debate going.
