BURNED TO DEATH.
A PECULIAR FATALITY AT M U RIW Al.
NATIVE’S TRAGIC END
Information was received by Sergt. Hutton on Saturday morning that a Native, 70 years of age, named Wi Kare, who resided at Muriwai, had died as tht result of burns received through his face coming in contact wnn a lamp. It appears ho lived with another Maori, Riwi Tahitaln, and occupied a. room at the end of the verandah. He had been ailing for some time past and! went to bed about 4 p.m. Early in the morning the other Natives m the house i\ere atti acted bv the smell of something burning, and,-oil breaking open Wi Kare’s door, found that he was lying with Ins face across the lighted lamp that was near In's bed- He had evidently turned over in his sleep and his head had l fallen over the lamp. Bo died a few hours later. Am inquest was ordered to be held by Mr W. A. Barton, S.M.
