DOMINION TOURNAMENT

CHAMPION SINGLES

AUCKLAND, Jan. 10

The Dominion howling tournament opened to-day in perfect weather. Play started with the singles, in which there are 17 sections of 16 players each. Rink play begins on Wednesday, there being 17 sections, 10 rinks in each section, and in all 880 players. In the pairs there are 38 sections, all but one of which. comprises six pairs, the 38th containing eight. . AUCKLAND, Jan. 10. The Dominion bowling tournament, which is this year under the control oi the Auckland Centre, commenced in beautiful weather to-day, with the singles championship. The rinks championship will commence on Wednesday and the pairs next Monday. Of the record entry of 272 competitors, comprising a party' from Australia and prominent bowlers from all pats of the Dominion, 85 were left in the singles championship at the close of the play to-day. Seventeen of these are two-lifers and 68 are one lifers. Four rounds wove played today.

The position in the different sections at the end of the fourth round is as follows : —-
