NAVAL MANOEUVRES. London, Aug. 7. During the naval manoeuvres on the west coast of Scotland an ironclad captured the town of Oban, and the gunboat Spider eluded the defending force and bombarded Greenock and Cambelltown. CONVICT JACKSON TO BE HANGED. The Government declined to recommend that the convict Jackson, who murdered the warder at Manchester Gaol, should be respited, and sentence of death will be carried out. AN ENGLISH PROTECTORATE OVER NORTH BORNEO. Parleying for a British protectorate over North Borneo is still proceeding. THE MURDERER MAXWELL. The Irish members are protesting against the application of England for the reprieve of the murderer Maxwell, and they compare their clemency with the treatment received by O’Donnell, the murderer of Carey, the Phoenix Park informer. PRESIDENT OF BIRMINGHAM RADICAL UNION. Mr Schofield succeeds Mr Chamberlain as President of the Birmingham Hadical Union. BISHOP BARRY. Bishop Barry denies that he was offered the See of Chester.
