London, Feb. 21. At the annual meeting of the Australian Agricultural and Coal Company, the report showed that the Company lost £16,000 by the Newcastle strike. The Canadian House of Commons, by a majority of 30, rejected a motion in favor of direct treaties with foreign countries. The German Trade Congress has been opened. Herr bon Boettecher said the Melbourne Exhibition showed that there were wider outlets for German manufactures than those now made use of. Fighting has taken place in British Borneo. Germany has demanded the punishing of Mr Klein, the American journalist, by the United States. The net average price of the last Victorian loan was £lO2 15s, which is unequalled for a colonial loan. It is alleged that the O'Connor-Gaudaur •culling match was a fraud. The Solicitor-General denies that the Government purpose expending £100,000,000 on the defences.
