(from oub own correspondents.) Christchurch, last night. At a meeting of the T.Harasses' Uuiou on 1 Friday night there were about 300 present. It was decided to send a message enquiring if iha management of th. The secretary was instructed to request a reply by Tuesday. The members of the Uniou express themselves anxious to avoid a strike, which would throw many men and women out of employment. Tbe dispute, however, will probably lead to trouble in the form of a strike or lock out.
At the inquest on the child of Robertson, which was run over by a Chinaman’s dray on Thursday, the evidence showed the driver had not seen the child, and when he was called upon to stop ho thought those who called out were teasing him, as usual, so he drove on.
