(FROM OUB O»VN CORRESPONDENT.) Wellington, last night. Mr C. J. Johnston, formerly M.HR. for Te Aro, will contest the Wellington Mayoralty. Major General Edwards will be entertained at a dinner on Wednesday evening by tha officers of the Wellington Garrison. The Colonial Treasurer has rec-ived a cable message from tha Agent-General that the announcement of the uew 3J per cent New Zialind Loan has been exoaedingly well received, and the Preu oomment on it in a friendly manner. The loan is already quoted at 1J to 1J premium. Tile railway revenue for the half year ia £540,000, which is £25,000 above ths estimate, while as the next half year includes the summer months and the Duiwdin Exhibition traffic the aurplus is expected to be much larger during the six months ended September 30. The land revenue wa< £55,853, the estimate for the year being £121,000. The territorial revenue was £135,765, the estimate being £222,900.
