The Frozen Meat Trade.

WONDERFUL PROGRESS—GISBORNE SIXTH ON THE LIST. [special to the standard.] Wellington, last night. Ths enormous progress made by the meat export trade of the colony within the last few years is shown by a return compiled privately. The annual export of beef and mutton einot the year 1882 has been as followilBB2— 1.707,328'b5, 1883—9 852,2001b5, 1884— 28.445,228 be, 1885 - 33.204.9671b5, 1886— 38,758,1601 b., 1887—45,034,9741b5, 1888— C1,887,3761b5, 1889—73 564.06Ub5, UBO (first six months 0n1y)—57,797,1011ba. It will be noticed that the exports of tbs last six months alone far exceeds that for any whole year prior to 1888, while the steadiness ot the growth of tbe industry is most remarkable. Napier heads ths list for quantity, while Gisborne stands sixth, with no less than 2,264,6781 be of meat, including 2.208,509!bs mutton end 56,164ibl lamb. When Gisborne has its permanent freezing works erected on shire it should occupy a very prominent position in the trade, A glance at our export column this morning will ba very gratifying, the large quantity of potatoes, barley, maize, and onions now being seat awaj, being a substantial supple, meet to exports of wool and frozsn meat. In tbe list of export! in our last issue there were barley, grace seed, hides, tierces beef, honey, horne, dtc., becidio 75 caces cheese from tbe Cook County Factory.
