COUNTY COUNCIL.
The above Council nut yesterday sf ernoon. Present: Crs Clark (Chairman), King, Murphy, McPhail, Orr. Messr.® K®nway Bros, wrote drawing the Councils attention to the s’ate nf 'he Waimata Valley road, which during the winter had been impßS=able for vehie'es, and almost so for horspß ; without proper supervision in the future the maintenance contract system tended tn become little more than a wasteful farce.—Work to be attended to. A letter was received fr< m Mr G. Scott eff >ing to give h«lf an acre of land for an approach to the Kaiteratahi bridge, in return for the road reserve, the Council to pay for •he transfer deeds, and he (Mr Sentr) would alter the fences and hedgis. —The matter was left over. Mr J W. Nevill wrote stating that the track from Arakihi to Tologa Bay is badly in need of repairs—clearing slips and cutting scrub,— Further infoimation required Mr W. K. Chambers wrote calling attention tn the very heavy grade on the new cutting over the Repongßere fn'd, and asking the Counch to spend a few pounds on the work in view of th? heavy traffic in wool this season— Agreed that woik be done.
Messrs Kenway Bros., Waimata. applied Io have th? line of road acrors the flat of section 1, survryed and formed, on the undeiatanding that they paid all costs. A similar request was made last year.—Agreed to. Accounts were passed as follows :—W. O, Sheet, £l2 13- 9d ; W. J. Quigley, £5 ss; W. O’Ryar., £4 4®; A. Muir, £8 13s; Kennedy, Evans end Co., £1 3 - 64 ; Bownlow and Kieiv, £l2 12®; M, Boland, £10; aalariee, £45 16- 8’; B. Brooking, £3 15s; H. Hvmblett £1 16-s; tranefera, £500; petty cash, £5.
The Engineer reported that the Kaiteratahi bridge plans were ready for inspection, and it was agreed to exhibit a copy at the City Council office, Auckland. Tenders were received from—E. Kirk £Bl (accepted), and L. Steele £75, for collecting tolls at the Tologa Bay ferry.
On the motion of Cr Orr, seconded by the Chairman, it was decided to strike a general rate of |d in the £ on all ridings in the county. An of general business was also transacted.
