Last night. The Mosgiel Woollen Company pay eight per cent, dividend, and carry forward a small balance. The inquest on Marsella Cowan, at Christchurch, shews extreme irritation of the windpipe, alleged to have been caused by the husband throttling her. An examination of the stomach is being made. Five of tbe orew nf tbe barque Brussells were arrested at Wellington for insubordination. Bobert McCrae, bashman, was killed at Duneiin yesterday aiternoon by being run over by a dray. A horse attached to a dray had bolted and deceased tried to stop the animal. The Wellington City Council has decided to take immediate steps to raise £lO,OOO for the Free Public Library, Messrs Booth and Smith, the petroleum experts, have been to Motusra, New Plymouth, and say the oil indications are very favorable. Mr Booth considers that the persons who bored in the locality 25 years ago stopped work rather too soon, and if they had persevered a little longer success must have crowned their efforts. He says the sample seen is excellent paraffin.
