Fatal Accident at Tologa Races.

A fatal accident occurred at the Tologe Bay racecuu as on Tuesday last, to s young man named Hone Turuaki, who wae riding Mr J. Herbert’s horae Timi in the Hurdle Baoe. Timi negotiated all the jumps in tbe first mile, but on taking the second to last hurdle before entering ths straight, the horse struck the sticks heavily and turned a complete somersault, falling on his rider, who was unable to clear himself. Tbe unfortunate fallow received a terrible crushing, his head being badly out about, and his lower jew was broken. When picked up the- blood was flowing freely from his mouth and ears, and he presented a horrible sight. Hs was removed to a where close by, and every attention was paid to the sufferer, but without avail, and he died about an hour afier the accident. The deceased was about 99 years of age, a id had only been in the district about 1.2 months, having oome from Keiepoi, Christen urch. It is elated that Hone was cautioned against riding in the race, as he was not considered competent to ride over hurdles, especially after tbe way in which ho bad rt i.len tbe same horse at Waipiro, but the lack persisted in doing so, making sure of a win. Constable Ryan does not think it will be necessary to hold an inquest, as there is no doubt as to the caute of death. The deceased is a cousin to Mr J Kennedy, who is manager for Mr J. N. Williams' Oraehu station.
