EDUCATION BOARD.
[special to THE STANDARD 1 Napier, Irst night At a meeting of the Educa'ion Board yesterday, half-a-dozen letters from the Gisborne School Committee were dealt with, as follows :—l. Estimate of cost of blinds, £7 5s ; grant of £2 made. 2. Expressing request that the teacher’s old residence had been moved; received. 3 Wanting conveniences fenced, cost £1 ; granted. 4. Applying that the teacher’s residence be papered inside and outside ; no funds. 5. Intimating that the rent of the High School room had been reduced £1 per month ; received. 6. Conveying a complaint from Mr James Robb that bls tender had not been accepted for work, though it was the lowest; received.
The Gisborne Harber Board wrote demanding payment of rates, £8 Ils 7d, and furnishing solicitor's opinion as to the liability to bo rated, but no action was taken. The following resolution was carried—- “ That ths Board on any vacancy occurring shall Invito applications and enquire into the fitness of candidates. If only one candidate appears eligible, the Board will submit tho name ot such candidate to the Committee, and unless some definite objection is made, it shall appoint such candidate. If more than one candidate shall appear eligible for any vacancy, the Board shall submit the names and testimonials of candidates (not to exceed three) to the Committee, ot shall consider for appointment such a one as the committee shall recommend." Messrs Sldey, Carlile, Tanner, and Ormond, were appointed a committee to enquire into and report upon all applications,
