CONCERNING SHEEP FARMS

AN ERROR EXPLODED. That the average city man’s idea that a sheepowner is the possessor of a large area running countless sheep has little foundation in fact is illustrated by the New Zealand returns for last year. Of the 26,712 flocks in the Dominion, 18,228 consisted of not more than 1000 sheep, while in 5975 flocks the sheep were not more than from 1001 to 2500. The flocks of from 5000 to 20,000 were 14JJ3 and 26 flocks were over 20,000. The estimate may be offered that more than 4000 of these flocks we pastured on country .that cannot be in the occupation of any other of the domestic auimals and that the sheep of a further 10;000 flocks graze on lands where the natural formation precludes the plough, or any attempt at cultivation.
