Thursday, Maech 4, 1880. (Before W. H. Kevdl, Esq., 8.M.) Giljier v. Lee. De r en.Jant was charged with illegally detaining certain articles the property of the plaintiff. The articles consisted of a ring, shirt s^uds, and other articles. Af'er hearing the evidence of tbe parties, his "Worship dismissed the in« formation, slating that there was no evidence to substantiate the charge. Pilice y. M'Connon. The defendant, an hotelkeeper at Black's Point, was charged with absent* ing himself frrom his licensed premises at Black's Point, for more than 14 days without leave so to do from the Beuch. Evidence was produced to show that defendant was working at the Anhura bridge. He did not appear. Fined, £3 and costs. Civil Cases. ; Monekfoa v. Molloy.- Defendant was i examined by Mr Moss, touching his i

ability to satisfy a judgment of the Court, and an order was made for the payment of the amount by monthly instalments of 10s. each. J.idg.nei.t by default was giyn in the following oases for calls :— New Independent Company v. Leech. £10 12s 6,1 ; same V; Meldrum, £52 15s 6J ; and same v. W. Harris, £22 11s 6J. M Kenna (Hate Co lector) v. Wjlde. Adj mrned for one month. Shields Bros. v. IVatlis, Claim for SS 8s 7d for gojds supplied. Judgment by consent for the amount with costs. M Kenna (Rate Collector) v. Stewart. Claim for £1 5s for rates. Judgment by default for amount with costs, Pavfes v. Giß'Oir. This was a claim tor £25, amount paid for a horse which was subsequently re» turned as not being according to war* ranty, and £10 tor the keep of the animal. The following evidence was taken :— L. Davies : In 18/5, Gibson and Flowers were in partnership. I told Flowers I wanted a quiet horse suitable for riding. He brought a horse over in January, 1876. I produce a receipt for the amount paid. Tried to ride the horse, but found him unmanageable. Flowers then took the animal to Westport, and brought him back with a hole in his thigh, saying that the horse had shied and I jumped on to a piece of timber, On another occasion George Shepherd tried to ride the horse and was thrown, 'femperley then tried, and got his shoulder broken. The defendants then agreed to take the horse back, and in March took him away. By the Bench : I had no written guarantee with the horse. Examination continued : I took the horse upon the understanding that it was a suitable one. Flowers took the horse away, saying that he would bring over another horse in ab< ut six weeks. Heard nothing more of the matter till July or August, when Gibs n told me that he had heard that Flowers was on his way over with a horse for me. Subsequently he told me that the horse was at Alcorn's. In about a fortnight's time heard that Flowers had 'eturned to Canterbury. I sent to Alcorn's, and found that no horse had been left there for me. I then asked Gibson to return me my money, and he said he could not pay it just then. The parties at this time had dissolved partnership. Defendant's evidence, which had been taken by commission in Chris 1 church was read o»er, and Mr Lynch having addressed the Court for the pl»int,iff, judgment was given for the amount claimed with ccsts. The Court then adjourned. LICENSING BENCH. . <> — (Before W. H. Eevell, Esq., and Messrs Brennan, Trenuerv,and BullrEsqs., Commissioners.) James Anderson applied for the transfer of his license for the Quartz Keef, Black's Point, to George Willis. Applica!ion granted. John Quig'ey applied for a transfer of lis license to premises situate in Lower Broadway. The application was made in j consequence of applicant having been lurnt out at the late fire in Broadway. The hotel would contaiu two parlors, two bedrooms, dining>room, and bar. The application was only a temporary one, and if it should be renewed further ac« commodation would be provided. The Bench granted the transfer upon the understanding that it would not be renewed unless additional accommodation were provided. Robert Dash applied for a transfer of his license for ihe Buck's flead Hotel, Broadway, to J. B. Walsh.— Granted.
