GOLDEN FLEECE EXTENDED.
This company's affairs have for the last few weeks been subject to one of the periodical lulls, which unfortunately form an occasional break in the pros" perity of even tbe best mining enterprises, an! which for the time cause a temporary depression. The stone lately crushed has not been up to the general average in quality, but it is confidently hoped that an improvement will soon occur. A general cleaning up will be made in the beginning of next week in time for the next half-yearly meeting of shareholders, which is announced for Tue--s day next in Greymouth, The No. 5 level in the Fleece block is being ex* tended towards the winze, which was sunk some two or three years ago from
No 4 level, and as calculations give only 9 or 10 feet more of unbroken ground between level and winz?, the latter is now being baled out to prevent any mishap in breaking through. When the winze was being sunk some good payable stone was being followed down, and a strong probability consequently exists for the assumption that fair returns will again shortly be obtained. The distance be* tween these two levels is 200 feet, so that a great block of stone will shortly be available.
