MURRAY CREEK.
GOLDEN TREASURE. Daring the week the work in this mice has been principally directed to wards the cutting out of a chamber to facilitate operations in the lower level south, which for a while will remain the scene of activity. This work was found to be necessary before rails were laid down in the drive to expedite the conveyance of stone to the shaft, and is also required as a depot for any accumulation of quartz, which may occur with the present primitive appliances for hoisting. The excavation is Bft x 10ft x Bft, and a quantity of stone was furnished to the mill therefrom, in fact the weeks' crcshing was mainly made up from this sup* ply, and as some rubble which could not be separated from the good stone also became mixed up with the lot, (he yield for the week is hardly up to the late general average, but yet shows highly payable results. Seventy tons of stone were put through the mill, and the re* turn of amalgam from top plates turned the scale at 146cz9. The general cleaning up will commence next Saturday, and will be completed in time for the meeting on the Monday following. Some very good stone is showing in the faces, and and next weeks crushing is expected to make up the general good average.
up would taka place to«day, but it has now been decided to postpone the operation till next Friday, when it is expected that satisfactory resu'ts will be obtained. JuJging from the appearance of the stone, and the accumulation on the plates the average results of previous crushiugs will probably be maintained, and consequently prove highly remunerative. The great body of the reef, which in places reaches 9 feet, sill keeps up the appears ance of continuing the same dimensions, and no diminution of size need be ap« prehended. The man who was hurt in the mine the o'her day through a piece of rock slipping on him, is now progressing favourably, and will soon be able to resume work again.
