Thursday, 11th Augut, 1881, (Before W. H. R-jvcll, Esq., 1UI.) Police v Twonir.L. This was nn information laid by the police 'laaiost P. IVohill, for a breach of the Billicr.-' Table Rcgul.itians, for allowing pi lying tit bi'li irrls in his licensed house on the morning of Sunday, the 17th of July las'. Mr Twolull admitted tlie charge, nnd stated in explanation that a billiird tournament was being held on the Salur* d:iy evening, and w>is continued until it w.is finished, as he did not notice the tinif. Find £1, and co-ts, 11>>. T wo witnrsses, who had b.^en subpoenaed did not claim any expenses. Reuben Waite v. Annie Young. The defendant in this ra«e was charged on tbe information of Reuben Waite. with having committed wilful and corrup' perjury at Hie R.M. Court, Reefton, in a case tried b;fore William Fforton Revell, Ei-q.. K.M., on the 30th of June, against the said Reuben Wiite who was hen informed against by the police for permitting disorderly conduct in his hcpnspd ho'ise. Waite's testimony went to prove that at the hearing of the case the accused gave evidence *o the effect that a row took place I etween Wnite and a man named Kennedy at 2 o'clock on the morning of Sunday, the 12th June, upon which evidence he was fined for the offence charged against him, whereas in fact no row took place in the bouse at the time, Kennedy having left the place between 11 and 12 o'clock, snd the house wps shut np and the inmates gone to bed before midnight. James Seymoar corroWafed this part of the testimony of Waite, stating thai Kennedy and himself slept together that night, having left for their own tent about 11 o'clock, but admitted that a disturbance had taken place before leav.« ir>g Waite's. At tlii3 stage, Mr Waite asked for an adjournment of the case as two of his witnesses, although subpoenaed were not in attendance. The Court refused to grant an adjournment, and commented apon the in* complete mutter in which the case bad been got up, and recorded a dismissal. Mersrs Lynch and Joues were engaged by defendant. Tbe remaining cases *rere of do im« portance, and the Court adjourned.
