RESULT.
During the latter part of this week, the reef, which was being followed, cut clean out, but after a diversion had been made in the direction of the hanging wall the lode was found again, having canted over at this place. Sufficient has not yet been done in opening out to ascertain the exact thickness of the stone, but present appearances would indicate about 2 feet, with gold in payable quantities. Mr , Butler has inspected the mine and the progress made in the present or No. 3 level, and upon referring to his old survey notes and calculations previously made, and also judging from the appearance of the country, gives it as his opinion that the reef would be cut in the No. 4 level in driving a distance of from ■ 60 to 70 feet from a point 350 feet from the mouth of this tunnel. The mine manager concurs in this, and has recommended the adoption of the plan to the directors, who will probably adopt the suggestion at their meeting this evening, ■ in which case men will be put on at once 1 to commence the cross-cut. It will be remembered that the No. 4 level tunnel has been driven a considerable distance be- ; yond the point from which it is now suggested to cross-cut for the reef. On failing to find the reef in tliis work it was abandoned for a time, and prospecting resumed in the upper or No. 3 level, with 1 results fully reported from time to time.
