BOATMAN'S.

THE WELCOME. I This company has had another splendid week, the cleaning up on Saturday last giving 13020z5. of amalgam from 90 tons of quartz. This will make the yield for the fortnight about 890ozs. of retorted gold. The above will be pleasing news to distant shareholders, for another good an early dividend looms largely in the future. This company are also about opening a lower level, and work is now going on for it. Those who have been busy caluminating the district should look rather small in the face of present re- | turns. SOUTH HOPEFUL. At a meeting of the directors held at Mr Wise's office on Saturday night, the tender of MrDominick Davine and party, was accepted- for driving extension of main level 100 feet, the price being £1 2s 6d per foot ; cross-cutting for prospecting, 16s. per foot; rising, 20s. per foot ; and sinking 375. per foot. Six tenders in all were received, the above being the lowest. The course of the tunnel will be that laid off by Mr Gardner, the accuracy of his late survey having up to the present been proved by the track keeping the course indicated by him. IMPERIAL. During the week, nine men have been engaged sinking the winze, the amount of work done being lift. oin., making the total depth sunk to date 118 ft. Oin. In order to preserve the grade of the winze, the refcf has still to bo left in tho hanging wall, and ita thick;.--- and regularity wil

ln> tested at intervals as the work progresses. Preparations are now being made for tho main outside works of tho company, and in our advertising columns tenders are invited for the erection of poppet-heads, paddocks, battery tramI way, __c. The plans are on view at Mr , Wise's office, and show that the whole of the works arc to bo of a thoroughly permanent character. GORGE COMPANY. This leaso is situated at the mouth of the Gorge on the Capleston side of Boatman's Creek. Gold bearing quartz was found on the surface and on being sunk upon having widened to two feet, the directors decided to call for tenders for driving 100 feet. They expect to strike the reef at less than this distance, which will give 150 feet of backs. This is likely to rank amongst the future payable mines of the district, as from its position it may be worked very economically. NEW ZEALAND. An extraordinary meeting of the shareholders of this company was held at Mr Bowman's office, on Saturday evening. Mr Bowman's appointment as manager was confirmed. Messrs Byrne, Beeche, Currie, Hankin, and Donaldson, were elected directors, and Mr Frank Smith, auditor, for the next six months. Rules were adopted, and the directors requested to visit the company's property at an early date, with the view of starting work without delay. This mine adjoins the Pactolus at Boatman's, where at present driving is being carried on to cut the line of reef, wliich is supposed to run into the New Zealand Company's ground. The stone in the Pactolus has been proved to be rich, and great hopes are entertained respecting this property. A great deal of work will be saved in tho New Zealand owing to the fact that much was done by former leaseholders, who did not persevere with the lease though they exposed two distinct bodies of stone. The share- ' holders are very sanguine, and are of opinion that it is only necessary to , thoroughly open up the ground in order to prove its value. TRY-AGAIN. A meeting of directors of this condpany was held on Saturday evening at Mr Brennan's office. It, was resolved to make a penny call to pay for the preliminary work done on the ground. Tlie mine is situated on the Imperial line of reef at Boatman's, and from the indications already met with it is thought that a fair trial will disclose payable prospects, and make the property of value in the market.
