The directors have just caused a survey of the reef to be taken in this mine, and the plan as prepared by Mr Butler shows that the present level requires to be driven about 40 feet to intersect the lode. Ihe contractors made a start this week, but as timber for tramway has to be cut, forge erected, and other preliminaries expected, no actual driving can be done for some days.
Last night Mr Morganti, manager of the Victor Emanuel Company's mine, brought in a parcel of very rich goldbearing quartz, which had jast been broken out. The stone is thickly studded with the precious metal, the gold generally being of a coarse character. The specimens are on view at the company's.
