REMARKABLE ECHO.
From the slight incline leading from Sussex Square to Banks Terrace a most perfect and distinct ' echo ' can be obtained. Shortly after dark the other evening, an elderly individual of choleric temperament, chanced to be in that locality, and^ missing hj 8 canine follower, proceeded to whistle his usual summons for that animal. Each whistle was promptly followed by a remarkably clever imitation thereof, and at last the old man grew warm. He proceeded to call out the dog's name. It came back to him with faithful mockery. This was too much. That elderly sinner blasphemed and raved. "You young varmints," said he* "If had you here I'd tan your hides." "Tan your hides" was wafted back on the evening breeze. •' Blachguards," shouted the irate citizen. "Blackguards." said the echo. "Go home," scornfully ejaculated the old ' un. Go home," returned the mocker. And he went, vowing to write to the papers about those " larrikins," and all the time the dog was lying at his feet, waiting further developments, and cogitating on the inequalities in the scheme of creation; "
