[From our Mining Reporter.] Saturday, August 25. The movement in the sharemarket which distinguished the closing period of last week has hardly been sustained since, and during the last few days, business has sobered down considerably. In the early part of the week intelligence thai the Inkerman reef had been cut through on the low level and showed 18ft of clean stone carrying fair gold, had a revivifying effect upon shareholders, and lent some advance to the quotation of shares, but did not give rise to much jobbing, the -mine being well held, and those interested more inclined to await the result of the first I crushing. The crossing of a vein of specimen stone in the Globe reef was also reported in the beginning of the week, and some samples were brought to town. The stone looked remarkably well, A number of persons have visited the mine during the last few days, and they all concur in predicting a good future for the undertaking. The last of the contractors material is now at hand, and being got into position. The starting of the machinery will no doubt attract a large number of spectators. < The fc>llowin£ are the battery returns for the past week : — Keep-it-Dark --flOozs of amalgam, from 200 tons of stone.
