From the ounty Clerk, Duller, reacknowledging receipt of the County Chairman's letter. From the Chief-Surveyor, elson and Minister Mines re maintenance of raid from Hampden to Maruia, and requesting the Council to take charge of road. From County Ulerk,- Greymouih, re tolls, &., . . . From the Commissioner of Crown ands, Nelaon, stating that Overend's land license had been granted. From the Under-Secretary for Goldfield's re funds,- &c. From the County Clerk, Greymouih, forwarding resolution re tolls etc From James Connolly, requesting the Council to extend Bridge-street. Proposed by Mr Patterson that the engineer report /|w» the probable cost of making the road asked for by iVIr Connolly. Seconded by Mr Craig and carried. From A. Brown, requesting the Council to rei'uud his deposit of L 5 on the 1 Crushington horse, track . ■, Proposed by Mr Feehan, that the deposit asked for by by Mr Brown be returned to him, and that, ilris resolution lie final — seconded i>y Mr Craig. A discussion ensued at'ter which (be Chairman asked for a division, which was tikenas follow : — Ayes : Patterson, Craig, Feehan, Ribet. oNoes: Irving and Brennan. The motion was declared carried. From S. Schulhoff and others, asking the Council to remove the tire-boll to some better • Matter referred to engineer, to report to next tneetjing of the Council, From Johji Gallagher and others, requesting Cojineil to erect a foot-bridge, over Boutm;jp's creek, ; Matter referred to the engineer to report on at the next meeting of the Council. From John M'Taggart, requesting the Council to refund his license fee, the said license having been cancelled. Proposed by Mr Patterson, and seconded by Mr I'raig that the application of M'Taggart,. for refund of license fee be not entertained. Carried. In re complaiut lodged by iSergoant Neville against Charles Mirfin — Resolved that the matter be referred to the Inspector of s uisancea. Alfred Smith applied that the privilege of erecting a punt on Buller river be granted to him. Proposed by Mr Ttibet that the privilege of placing a punt on' the Duller river be granted to A. Smith, Mr Rait having failed to erect the punt. Seconded by Mr Crai» and carried. From A M"Kinly, re payment of order From the Government Engineer re County Works From the Grey County Chairman re toll gate 3, etc. From the XT'ider-Secretary Public Works stating that Mr Martin would inspect works. From John Gihner and others, requesting the Council to throw "Green's road " oven for traffic. Proposed by Mr Patterson, that the engineer be empowered to remove the obstructions complained of by Gilmer and others. From J. G, Hialop requesting Council to refund him amount of tines inflicted by the Resident Magistrate on Chinese working without miners rights. Mr Heslop's application was ordered to stand over pending enquiries as to the tines mentioned. From the Minister of Mines re Low Level Tunnel at Boatmau's, re works on Goldtielda, carriage of diamond drill. From the. Minister of Public Works re road through anmbal- Gorge. From F •Vreher requesting the Council to grant him fresh protection under the Public Works ct, 1882. Proposed, by Mr Feehan, that the resolution of the Couucil passed at a meeting thereof on the 23th June, re Tnangahua Lauding ferry be rescinded— Seconded, by Mr Ribet, and carried Proposed by Mr Irving, that the Council grant a lease for a term of five years of the ferry at the Tnaugahua Landing, conditions and scale of charges to be axed • y the Council, and to be pubiicly notilied for two months from this date— Seconded by Mr Craig and carried. The correspondence as read was received. The Chairmain presented a petition from Koberfc Oxley and others requesting the Council to make a road in the direction of Merrijigs to Big River. Resolved that thie petition be read and received. The Engineer's Report was read and ordered to be held over till next meeting. Proposed by Mr Irving that the-Oinur-man be requested to renew the application made by the Council under the Roads and Bridges Construction Act, re the road from Reef ton to Big River, and that the member for the district be requested to urge the claim on the Government, and that the petitioners be informed of the action of the Couucil Seconded by Mr Craig and carried. Proposed by Mr Irving that a rate of six farthings in the pound upon the value of the rateable property as appearing in the Valuation Roll for the time being in force in the ounty of Inaugahua be, an<l the same is hereby made, and that such rate be for one year, commencing on the Ist day of October, 18S3, and ending on the 30th day of September, 1834, "and that such ratu be payable at the office of the Council, Reeftou, in one sum, on the 1 th day of October, 1833. Seconded by Mr Feehan, and carried Proposed by Mr Brennan, that a meeting <>f the ratepayers of Keefton be called for Wednesday, the 17th iust, at 'B p m at the Uoiincil Chambers, to take into consideration the question of watersupply for the town, seconded by Mr Irving and carried. Proposed by Mr Feehan, that the engineer be instructed to put Uogor's footbridge at Capleston in a state of repair, seconded by Mr Irving and carried Proposed by Mr Irving and seconded by Mr Feehan, that the hairman and Mr Patterson interview the manager of the National Bank, and ask him to allow the Council an advance of 4000 for a period of twelve months-carrie I. ..
