HOKITIKA MINING.
Tlie Times reports that great excitement exists at Rimu over the late gold discovery. The ground is marked ont in ! all directions and very great activity prevails The miners are getting in : readiness to sink, and as the ground i-t ■ well proved there is not any likelihood of the parties thinking it necessary to shepherd their claims. The following I extract from a private letter received 1 yesterday from Okarito, has been { handed to ns for publication : — " lam pleased to inform yon that some of thclaims at Mapounka have struck golJ in their tunnels, after twelve to sixteen mouths' hard labor. The prospects in some cases give as high as a pennyweight of gold to the dish. The mining news from further south is also of a satisfactory character." The Hokitika Leader says that , several parties of miners will take advantage of the liberal regulations made by the House during the last session on the recommendation of the Goldlieids Committee. With tbe vast extent of anriferouscountry all through the district some important discoveries will probably be made.
