An Old Identity.
[ Wellingtoa Paper.] Another of the pioneer settlers of Wellington passe 1 away on Monday lost, at the age of 67, namely, Mr Arthur Hay ward, whose face m former years was familiar to almost every one m Wellington and the Wairarapa: Mr Hay ward arrived m Wellington m the Tory m 1840, and Bettled first, at Ngahauranga, then at the Lower Hutt, and afterwards at Grey town, eventually returning to to spend the remainder of his days. For a time he was landlord au Whitewood's Hotel, at the Lower Hutt, which he relinquished to take the Rising Sun at Greytown. During the native troubles he received a severe blow on the back of the head, from which he never quite recovered, and which eventually caused his death. He leaves d son CMr J. 0. Hay ward, of Masterton) and three mamed daughters.
