AUSTRALIAN MINISTER.

PROBABLE APPOINTMENT. IN UNITED STATES. NEW YORK, Dec. 3. Sir Hugh Denison,Australian Trade Representative, in a speech before the New York State Chamber of Commerce, said: “The same diplomatic relations that rule between America and other countries will probably in the not distant future exist between my country and yours.” This is interpreted as meaning that Australia will shortly appoint a Minister plenipotentiary in the United States. The statement lias aroused much interest. The feeling is that while such an envoy would be enthusiastically received, there it little likelihood that the United States will reciprocate by sending a Minister to Australia. Official circles believe that the present consular representatives are sufficient to handle American interests in Australia. —A. and N.Z. cable.
