CRICKET.
SHEFFIELD SHIELD MATCH. ADELAIDE, Dec. 3. The Sheffield Shield match between Victoria and South Australia commenced to-day. Victoria has six wickets down for 265 runs (Ponsford 178, Hendry 30, Mitchell 32). The weather was fine but dull, and the wicket good. Ponsford played attractive, aggressive cricket, and runs came quickly before luncheon. After the interval the batsmen treated the bowling with great respect, and the rate of scoring was much slower. The fielding throughout was very faulty.—Press Association.
