WAS IT FAKED?
CHAMPIONSHIP FIGHT
MORNING AIILK BLAAIED. NEW YORK, Dec. 1. Magazine writers are fighting the Dempsey-Tunney battle all over again. “AVas the big fight a fake?” is the headline of a feature story in the current Libei'ty, by Sydney Sutherland. Charlie Alabbutt, the generalissimo around Dempsey’s camp, has declared that the ex-champion was poisoned from milk left on tho verandah in the mornings. Alabbutt was ill for several weeks after the fight, attacked by the same rash which afflicted the former champion. Mr Sutherland also charges Dempsey with having agreed to lie down before Tunney, but says that gamblers who had backed Tunney heavily also slow-poisoned Dempsey to make certain that he would keep to the agreement. ■ “Perfect nonsense,” declared Air Tex Rickard, when shown this and similar charges which are stirring New York. Dempsey himself said: “I wa3 beaten by a better man. That’s all about it.”
