Canon Petrie. .Vfessrs C. D. Fraser, L. R. Bryant, A. E. Cooksiey, E. Goodbehere, E. Anderson, H. P. Horne, D. Christie, R. llamsay, W. W. Jones. N. H. Nash, J. Bartholomew, R. Ross. G. W. Wardrop, A. Williamson, P. Morris, J. B. Gerrand, W. Hunter and A. F. Wimsett (secretary). Apologies tor absence were received from Messrs J • J. O’Shea G. N. Stephenson and R. Bly.
It was decided to write to Mr J. J. O’Shea congratulating him on his recovery from his recent illness 1 . The chairman stated that, at the last annual meeting, it had been decided to introduce pennant matches, but- owing to lack of support from the clubs this had not proved practicable. The time had arrived, the chairman continued, when something in connection with Palmerston North being declared a bowl testing centre should be done. They had tried to arrange for the Wanganui tester to visit Palmerston North, but this had proved too costly. The only thing they could do was to apply to the Dominion Bowling Association for permission for the local officer to visit Wellington and be examined by the Wellington official tester, Mr Fairway. Surely this centre was large enough to have an official tester. Mr Ross considered that the clut secretaries should be asked to supply the number of bowls that the clubs would require testing. He moved in this direction, the chairman seconding the motion. The chairman also advised the secretary that in asking for this information clubs should be informed that the rules of the association would be strictly adhered to in that only met knwlc c. hnl) Irl lifted
The chairman also advised the secretary that in asking for this information clubs should be informed that the rules of the association would be strictly adhered to in that only properly tested bowls should be used in matches. The motion was carried. The chairman then moved that the Dominion Bowling Association be written to pointing out the urgency of Manawatu being created a bowl testing centre and asking that arrangements be made for a local officer to be examined and appointed. This motion was also carried. ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report (a a already published except for the addition _ ‘‘ln the test matches with the Australian team .dr C. D. Fraser worthily represented this centre”) was taken as read. _ In moving the adoption of the balance-sheet and annual report, the chairman indicated that the financial position was satisfactory. They had to build up a surplus to meet contingencies such as the purchase of bowl testing apparatus. Mr Goodbehere agreed with the chairman that the balance-sheet showed a satisfactory position and he thought that the secretary should be congratulated on his work. The secretary stated that it had not been found necessary to draw upon the clubs for entertaining visitors. They should endeavour to maintain their balance of £JpU which had been buiit up from lOd. Mr Goodbehere enquired why the Otaki Club had decided to affiliate with the Wellington Centre. The chairman stated that it was due to community of interest. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. DOMINION TOURNEY.
The Shannon Club sent in the following remit to the Dominion Bowling Association: —“That section play at the Dominion tourney be completed beiore going on with successive section games." The proposal was a good one, said the chairman, as many men could not afford the time necessary under the present system. He had sought for a long time that each section should be concluded before commencing another competition. A player ior instance in the singles would have to wait for some days before the finals in his section were played. Mr Wardrop considered that if the etter meant that the singles competition be completed before starting on the pairs it would not work. On the other hand, if it meant that the section winners in each competition be finalised before proceeding to the next competition it would be all right. The chairman moved that the Shannon resolution be confirmed. Mr N. H. Nash considered that there was some doubt as to what the Shannon resolution meant. Until a Shannon delegate was present to explain whether they meant that each competition should be finished before proceeding to the next competition, or whether they meant that section winners only in each competition be finalised, it would b© as well to hold ihe matter over. This course wa3 agreed upon. NEW YEAR TOURNAMENT.
Air Christie' brought forward a remit from the Foxton Club that the New Year tournament should be a pairs event. He considered that they would get a larger representation of outside Mr Ramsay considered that the New Year tournament had gone rather flat with rinks and accordingly seconded the motion. . , Air Bartholomew also supported the suggestion. The chairman pointed out that to run a successful pairs tournament they would need to use a number of greens. This would increase the expenses. Would the players agree to a reasonable entrance fee, say 12s 6d per player? Mr 'Ross failed to see why the expenses should be increased. Eveipr bowler recognised thnt it w&s difficult to get a rink at New Year. Also, a pairs tournament would not conflict with the Wanganui rinks tournament. Mr Wardrop did not see why making it a pairs event should increase interest in the tournament. He supported the present fixture. Mr Anderson was also opposed to the proposal. The motion was carried and the entrance fee was fixed at 12s 6d per player. The prizes were allotted as follow ; _£3 per player for first prize, £2 for second and £1 for third. Mr Fraser moved that a tournament executive of seven members be elected. Air Anderson seconded the motion. Air Cooksley moved as an amendment that the executive consist of one delegate from each club, but with no members representing outside clubs as substitutes. The amendment was lost and the motion was carried. The following tournament executive was elected-Messrs A. E. Cooksley, J. B. Gerrand, B. Alorris, N. H. Nash. T). Christie. J. R. The man pointed out that the members of the council already received actual travelling expenses but no board ai- ° 3lr C Ramaiy moved that the centre agree to the proposal and this was carried. - It was decided to write to the Dominion Bowling Association . asking for Manawatu to be included in tne itinerary of the Canadian team. Air Bartholomew moved that the Otaki Club be written to asking them to reconsider their decision to affiliate with the Wellington Centre and this was decided upon.
