INCREASE IN SUBSCRIBERS,
ALLOCATIONS FOR BOOKS. Reporting to the Borough Council last evening, the librarian (Air F. IV. Christian) stated that 63 new members had been enrolled, and the number at the end of August was 1210. The library committee reported that 125 books had been forwarded to London for rebinding, and recommended that the sum of £IOO, being portion of the balance of moneys in hand after paying the capital cost of the erection of new building, be allocated this year as follows; —Purchase of new and up-to-date Encyclopaedia Britanniea, containing 16 volumes, at a cost of £26, and that tho balance of above allocation, viz., £74, bo expended in purchasing latest hooks of fiction,
