BASIC WAGE.

NEW AUSTRALIAN RATES. Received January 28, 10 a.m. CANBERRA, Jan. 27. As a result of an adjustment of the Federal basic wages, which are based on the retail price index for food, the New South Wales rate will be two shillings lower, Western Australian Is 6d ..lower, Tasmania sixpence higher. The 4 other States are unchanged. The new rates will be as follows: New South Wales £3 16s 6d, Victoria £3 10s 6d, Queensland £3 ss, South Australia £3 4s 6d, Western Australia £3 7b 6d, Tasmania £3 12s. These rates are subject to the ten per cent, reduction made by the Arbitration Court.
