POHANGINA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) POHANGINA, Jan. 27. Members of the Apiti Tennis Club journeyed to Pohangina on Tuesday to compete in a friendly match with the local team.' A most enjoyable day was spent by all though rain late in the afternoon made the courts unfit for play and the players wore forced to leave with seven sets not completed. Up till this time Apiti led with 9 sets to 8, but Pohangina had won 86 games ,to 81. During the match the Pohangina ladies served a. dainty luncheon and afternoon tea. Before leaving on the homeward journey Mr C. Osborne, on behalf of the Apiti team, thanked the Pohangina Club members for their hospitality, and assured them that in spite of the disappoint-., mont the rain had caused, they felt that the long journey had been well worth while, as some interesting' play had been enjoyed. The secretary, Mr W. Smart, replied for the home team and led them with cheera'for the visitors.

The result of the games played were as follow, Apiti players being mentioned first: Ladies’ singles.—Mrs MoNae, junr., beat Mias E. Loamy, 6—2; Mrs Dick lost to Miss -Klink, 6—7; Mrs MoNae, senr.', beat Mrs N. Moar, 6 —l; Mrs Cantwell beat Miss Sinolair, 6—5; Mrs Waterson beat Misa Harland, 6—3; Mrs Osborne beat Miss Dawson, 6—4. ' ' Men’s singles.—T. Osborne lost to F. Orgias, 2—7; M. McNae lost to E. Orgais, I—7; C. Osborne lost to G, Klink, I—7; A. R. MoNae beat R. Culling, 7—6. Ladies’ doubles.—Mesdames Dick and MoNae, senr., beat . Mrs Moar and Miss Sinclair, 7—5; Mesdames Waterson and Osborne beat Misses Harland and Dawson, 7t-3. Men’s doubles.—T. Osborne and M. MoNae lost to Orgias and Orgios, 4—7; C. Osborne and A. McNae lost to Klink and R. Smart, 3—7; Schmidt and E. Osborne lost to W. Smart and Culling,-4—7. Mixed doubles. —T. Osborne and;Mrs M. MoNae beat F. Orgias and Miss Loamy, 7—l; M. MoNae and Mrs Dickloat to E. Orgias and Miss Klink, 3—7. . Total: Apiti 9 sets, 81 games;Pohangina, 8 sets, 86 games.
