EXTRACTS FROM “STANDARD.” DECEMBER 13, 1902.
During November 28,4611bs of butterfat were supplied to the Awahuri Dairy Company', as compared with, 26.4061bs for November, 1901. Suppliers received £ll2O 11s 7d, as against £992 2s. When leaving Wellington harbour, the liner Athenic struck a shoal and remained fixed for six hours. The vessel was later brought back to the wharf for examination. The New Zealand Cricket Council decided to bear all expenses in connection with the tour of Lord Hawke’s team, any profit to be divided among the various associations.
Tho first motor bus service to be instituted in the colony was projected for Napier, a contract having been signed for the supply of a doubledecker vehicle for the Taradale route
Tho German Reichstag adopted a new rule limiting speeches upon points of order to five minutes, thereby “gagging” members. It was reported from Berbera that the “Mad Mullah” had been assassinated while at prayers. Terrific snowstorms were reported from Southern Russia and the Black Sea area, and railway communication was interrupted to a large extent.
